The season concluded in a contentious manner on Sunday evening.

When FGCU was leading Stetson 6-5 in the seventh inning, a rain delay occurred, lasting more than six hours. The game did not resume afterward.

had to cancel the match and declared both teams as co-champions of the tournament, even though FGCU was announced as the victor in Sunday’s contest.

Nevertheless, Stetson secured the ASUN’s automatic bid for the 2025 NCAA baseball tournament, following an announcement made by the Atlantic Sun Conference commissioner post-game.

“In spite of significant endeavors, we couldn’t conclude the 2025 Atlantic Sun Conference Baseball Tournament because of severe weather conditions,” stated the ASUN commissioner.
Jeff Bacon stated in an announcement.
Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU) has been named the victor in today’s opening championship match, and since FGCU and Stetson University (Stetson) share an even head-to-head record against each other at 1-1, both FGCU and Stetson will be honored as the 2025 ASUN co-champions.

As per the ASUN policy, Stetson University will receive our 2025 automatic qualifier. Congratulations to both teams for their exceptional season, and all the best to the Hatters as they move forward.

Stetson held the top seed at the ASUN tournament and boasted a 24-6 conference record for the season against FGCU’s 16-14 standing. The team entered the championship from the winner’s bracket with an undefeated streak of three wins (including their victory over the Eagles earlier on May 22 with a score of 5-4 during the second round of the winner’s bracket).

This indicated that FGCU (with a 3-1 record in the tournament matches) would have required defeating the Hatters twice to secure the automatic qualifier from the ASUN. An email sent to the Atlantic Sun seeking clarity on this policy had not been promptly responded to by the USA TODAY Sports Network at that point.

On Monday, Stetson is set to wait for its name to be announced as part of the complete 64-team bracket unveiling for the NCAA baseball tournament.

The article initially appeared on USA TODAY:
Due to rainfall, the ASUN baseball championship has been called off; consequently, Stetson secures the automatic qualifying spot for the NCAA tournament.
