CSK Coach Uncovers the Mystery Surrounding MS Dhoni’s IPL Future

The Chennai Super Kings’ assistant coach, Sridharan Sriram, stated that the team is uncertain about MS Dhoni’s intentions concerning his continued involvement in the IPL as they approach their last league match against the Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad on Sunday, May 25. There has been considerable debate surrounding Dhoni’s future yet again leading up to this crucial game for CSK.

Dhoni mentioned that he hasn’t reached a decision yet and plans to spend the coming eight months assessing his direction towards IPL 2026. At the pre-match press conference, Sriram stated that he doesn’t know whether Dhoni is considering retirement or intends to carry on, as no official choice has been taken.

“I don’t know nearly as much as I’d like. Truly uncertain about what will unfold,” stated Sriram.

Sriram stated that the problems within the team are known to Stephen Fleming, Dhoni, and Ruturaj Gaikwad, who all have a clear understanding of the actions required.

Sriram mentioned, ‘I believe the bright side is that both Fleming and MS Ruturaj have a distinct understanding of what led to the issues and what actions should be taken. Therefore, I feel the path forward is very well-defined, which is truly encouraging.’

Many of the strategies for Chennai were unsuccessful this season, and Sriram believed that blaming only the middle order for the disappointing performance would not suffice. As the CSK assistant coach, he thought that their playing style itself had become problematic throughout the season.

Sriram stated at the pre-match press conference that everyone acknowledges this season hasn’t unfolded as we had hoped.

“Winning isn’t solely dependent on our middle order; it’s also about our overall performance throughout the year and the outcomes of those matches. Therefore, it wouldn’t be fair to pinpoint any single aspect,” he said additionally.
