She could be preparing to set sail toward her own kind of sunset soon, potentially leaving both of them behind. What’s truly astonishing is that despite how soapy and silly it may seem, “Crew Week” turns out to be one of the more profound episodes of the series up until now.
This episode sees Max facing a turning point. He decides to take a break during the bye week to return home and reconnect with his family. It turns out this includes an identical elder brother—who was born exactly one minute before him, thus claiming seniority—and his spouse along with their pair of twins (so yes, we’re dealing with quadruple multiples here). As Avery prepares for medical school in just a few weeks, Max recognizes he might lack strong ties to the Odyssey anymore. Consequently, he starts exploring potential employment opportunities back at his local community hospital.
When he visits the neglected facility, he recognizes its desperate need for someone with his skills and medical expertise. To provide urgent care to a young boy facing a critical situation, he must override objections from both a receptionist and a nurse. At his family residence later, his brother swiftly assesses his life narrative, commenting that his fear of stopping due to contracting mononucleosis during adolescence left an indelible mark on him—fearing another illness might rob him of enjoying life fully once more. This poignant observation underscores the meaningful connections he holds dear along the shoreline. Nevertheless, despite his deep affection for his nieces and the potential freedom to reshape the emergency room protocols, these do not outweigh his feelings towards Avery; thus, he chooses to return to sea voyages aboard the floating clinic for further adventures.
“I never truly discovered the single entity that bestowed everything with significance and purpose until I encountered you. You are that singular being, Avery, which is why I returned,” he explains to her.
It’s the second instance of true love she’s encountered in a single day; previously, Tristan mentions that after Vivian,

She requested that they elevate their relationship to a more committed stage—considering he has been undergoing many personal transformations recently and they share a great deal of enjoyment in each other’s company—he recognized that he still hasn’t gotten over Avery.
“It appears you believe my emotions are immature and inconsequential… however, if someone had the same sentiments for me that I have for you, I would hope they’d tell me,” Tristan states. “The feelings I harbor for you are genuine and significant.” (To keep things from getting overly sentimental, he adds, “I figured it was wise to share all of this before my hair starts falling out,” referring humorously to the possible side effects of the medication meant to protect his mind from those pesky brain worms.)
However, despite being skilled at expressing their emotions verbally, both individuals commit a crucial error when speaking with Avery; this misstep persists throughout the episode.

At present, it seems Avery has all the justification needed to confidently advance toward medical school without looking back. Could this be where the story is headed?
The finale that could potentially also serve as the last episode of the series.
