Rahr-West Art Museum
is marking its 75th anniversary by dedicating a day to celebrate a painting by Georgia O’Keeffe, which the museum refers to as the “crown jewel of our collection.”

“Birch and Pine No. 2,” created a hundred years ago, is a notable artwork by Georgia O’Keeffe, frequently recognized as one of the most prominent female artists of the 20th century.
As stated in the museum’s press release, they have had the painting in their possession since 1990 after receiving it as a gift.

Rahr-West’s ongoing exhibition titled “100 Years of Birch and Pine No. 2” will be available at the museum up until November 2nd. This display aims to provide insight into the background of the artwork and details about its acquisition by West for the museum not long before she passed away.

The Rahr-West is organizing a special event featuring a tea service, an O’Keeffe art lecture, and a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the museum’s 75th-anniversary celebration on May 15.
Tea service:
The tea event titled “Tea in the Mansion” will take place from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Members of the museum can attend for $25, while non-member tickets cost $35; both prices cover reserved seats for an ensuing art lecture after the tea. To secure your spot, reservations should be made by May 5 either at the museum’s front desk or by phoning 920-686-3090.
Lecture:
Following the tea service, P.D. Young will lead the Art of Conversation beginning at 3 p.m. This event is open to the public and does not require registration.
At the Art Institute of Chicago, Young serves as a lecturer and will provide insights into O’Keeffe and her artwork. The press statement notes that Young is recognized as an art historian, educator, and photographer who has a talent for making surprising links between different fields.
Ribbon-cutting:
Following Young’s presentation, the Chamber of Manitowic County will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony that is complimentary and accessible to everyone. Refreshments will be served after the ribbon-cutting event.
