Italian Designer Maria Grazia Chiuri Steps Down From Dior
On Thursday, Dior revealed that Italian designer Maria Grazia Chiuri would be leaving her position as the artistic director for the brand’s women’s line at the French fashion house after nearly ten years in the role.
Dior has boomed since Chiuri took over in 2016, becoming the second-biggest brand in the stable of luxury labels owned by French powerhouse LVMH.
Her modernization efforts and feminist advocacy drew in new clientele.
Chiuri, the first female to take on the role of Dior’s creative director following stints at Italian fashion houses Valentino and Fendi, had for a considerable time been speculated about potentially leaving her position.
“Dior would like to extend its heartfelt thanks to Maria Grazia Chiuri for her remarkable tenure as the Artistic Director of the Women’scollections since 2016,” the company stated.
“Following nine years with the House of Dior, I depart filled with joy for the exceptional chance I’ve had,” Chiuri stated in the release.
Last month, Northern Irish designer Jonathan Anderson was appointed as the creative director for Dior Men and is now being considered as a potential candidate for succession. If he were to take this role, he would become the first individual to lead both the menswear and womenswear lines.
