When a Knicks supporter brought up the Timberwolves being in the second round of the Western Conference Playoffs with Green at Madison Square Garden, the 35-year-old forward did not hesitate to respond.
“Cancun! Cancun! What about Cancun?” the Knicks supporter yelled at the 6-foot-6 green creature.
For those new to the scene, Cancun has become associated with being knocked out of playoff contention since losing in the playoffs gives players an opportunity to begin their offseason vacations early.
Green, who has clashed with everyone from adversaries to referees and even his own colleagues, didn’t hold back when confronting his harasser.
“Can you manage to attend?” Green questioned just as another man stepped up to the Knicks fan.
The man standing several inches taller than the Knicks supporter seemed much more furious compared to Green. Actually, they were so close that their chests nearly touched, with the Knicks supporter pushed back against one of the pillars in the upper level of Madison Square Garden, which was where Green had set up his position for TNT’s halftime broadcast.
Green is recognized as an agitating figure who frequently aims to distract opponents with provocation. Throughout his career, he has faced fines totaling almost $1 million, excluding the additional $3 million deducted from his game earnings due to his six individual suspensions.
Recently, he was hit with a $50,000 fine for implying that officials were trying to maintain a 5.5-point margin in the Timberwolves-Oklahoma City Thunder playoff game. Before this incident, Green had an outburst directed at journalists who questioned him about receiving his fifth technical foul of the playoffs.
“I am not an angry Black man; instead, I am a highly successful and well-educated individual who happens to be Black, has a wonderful family, and excels exceptionally in basketball,” he stated according to The Athletic.
The plan to continually portray me as an enraged African American individual is absurd. I am tired of this. It’s preposterous.
Green subsequently marched out of the locker room.
ESPN basketball journalist Tim MacMahon subsequently criticized Green’s tirade during an episode of The Hoop Collective podcast.
Oh, man. Seriously, you should go, Draymond,” McMahon stated. “Just be quiet, okay?
‘Cut the victim act. Here too, do not pretend to be a victim. Cease with the obvious actions. We’ve had enough of this. We have grown tired of your constant behavior involving foolish and blatant nonsense. This isn’t about some hidden plan, Draymond.’
You receive one break after another, yet you continue to push boundaries. The intention wasn’t to portray you as angry when you hit your teammate in the face.
McMahon was alluding to an event from 2022 when Green struck his then-teammate Jordan while the Warriors were getting ready for the new season.
It wasn’t intended to portray you as angry when you took Rudy Gobert down with a sleeper hold,” McMahon stated. “Nor was it meant to show you as upset when you hit or slapped, or however you choose to describe it, Jusuf Nurkic’s head.
