Yankees GM: Giancarlo Stanton Nearing Rehab Assignment

Giancarlo Stanton, the New York Yankees’ power hitter, has been sidelined all season with injuries to both of his elbows. However, he is getting close to starting a rehabilitation assignment, as reported by Yankees General Manager Brian Cashman.

In an interview with MLB Network Radio, Cashman mentioned that his designated hitter might be able to participate in live batting practice over the coming fortnight. He added that Stanton has been fully engaged, mentioning that he has completed both baserunning exercises and sessions against a pitching machine.

Stanton, who is 35 years old, was put on the 10-day injured list at the end of March and subsequently moved to the 60-day IL in May because of inflammation in both his right and left elbows.

In the 2017 National League Most Valuable Player award as part of the Miami Marlins team and a five-time All-Star, Giancarlo Stanton had a batting average of .233 along with 27 home runs and 72 RBIs across 114 games during his previous season. Throughout his tenure with the New York Yankees spanning seven years, Stanton has hit an impressive total of 162 home runs and scored 431 RBIs while maintaining a batting average of .241.

Stanton has been beset by injuries; during his tenure with the Yankees, he has only managed an average of 94.7 games per season. He exceeded 115 games in just two seasons, with the most recent instance being in 2021 when he participated in 139 games.
