State Honors Mark the Farewell to Malani Fonseka

Sri Lanka, May 24 — The funeral ceremonies for renowned senior actress Malini Fonseka, lovingly referred to as the Queen of Heladi cinema, will take place with state honors at the Independence Square in Colombo on Monday, May 26. This was announced by Dr. Hiniduma Sunil Seneviratne, who serves as the Minister of Buddha Sasana, Religious, and Cultural Affairs.

To honor her significant impact on Sri Lankan cinema, her body will lie in state for public viewings at Tharangani Hall, situated inside the National Film Corporation complex, on Sunday, May 25th starting at 10 a.m. Malani Fonseka breathed her last early on the morning of May 24th while undergoing medical care at a private facility in Colombo following an extended battle with illness. She is remembered as one of the most cherished and revered figures in the annals of Sinhalese film history.
