In “She The People,” Terri J. Vaughn plays the role of Antoinette Dunkerson, who has just been elected as the Lieutenant Governor of Mississippi. This new political comedy series follows her journey.

Terri’s character tries to leave her imprint on politics as Mississippi’s inaugural Black lieutenant governor.

Nevertheless, she constantly needs to battle with her eccentric family and surmount a supervisor who is both patronizing and gender-biased.

Regarding X, @chibzyyyy commented: ‘She the People is genuinely humorous.’

In a similar vein, @CallMeRenee_ mentioned that the series had her in a ‘chokehold’ but also included laughing faces.

@LoudHummingbird also commented: “I’m watching #SheThePeople on Netflix. Although the ‘comedic’ aspect has trouble revealing itself during the initial few episodes, it gradually establishes itself over time, with Terri J. Vaughn undoubtedly being the standout.”

Nevertheless, not all viewers shared the same level of satisfaction with how the series was carried out.

The show is too recent to have garnered a score on Rotten Tomatoes; however, based on its few early reviews, opinions seem quite varied.

Although critics say it is ‘rather enjoyable’, they also caution readers that it falls short of being considered ‘high art’.

“It may not be high art, but Tyler Perry’s ‘She the People’ is intentionally humorous rather than inadvertently amusing. On this basis, it becomes much simpler to treat it with seriousness compared to his more outlandish dramatic works,” notes Jonathan Wilson.
