Prabal Gurung Unveils “Walk Like a Girl”: Empowerment on the Runway

Kathmandu, May 17 — The renowned American fashion designer Prabal Gurung recently published his memoir titled ‘Walk Like a Girl.’ This publication was brought out by Viking Press, which is an imprint under Penguin Random House based in America.

The author recounts his path from being a young LGBTQ+ individual in Nepal and India to establishing himself as an acclaimed fashion designer in New York City, USA. In his narrative, he details the obstacles and prejudices encountered while striving for success in America and climbing the ladder within the fashion industry.

The book also underscores his challenges, accomplishments, and the pivotal support from his mother throughout his journey.

Gurung shares on Instagram, “This was penned with quivering hands and an open heart. Each page contains a truth I thought I needed to conceal. Every sentence is woven together with hope, memories, pain, and resilience.”

‘Do It Like a Lady’ is portrayed as an homage to womanhood, uniqueness, and the strength found in accepting your authentic self.

Vogue remarks, “The narrative succeeds in being both hopeful and understanding—sometimes remarkably so—even towards individuals who did not treat him kindly, all without downplaying any details.”
