Church Interior Set for Transformative Lighting Makeover

A church will undergo transformation with a new light installation as part of a public art initiative.

Fermynwoods Contemporary Art, an educational art foundation located in Northamptonshire, has presented “Halo,” an immersive piece created by Swiss-Danish artist Tobias Zehntner, at the All Saints Church in Earls Barton.

Initially unveiled at the Abbaye de la Cambre in Belgium, Halo showcases a hanging illumination system that projects both shadowed outlines and luminous circles over the spectators.

“The placement perfectly captures that sanctified sense of being in between,” stated Reverend Jenny Bland from All Saints.

The illumination associated with churches, bringing to mind candlelight, halos, mystique, and divine presence.

An area where we could potentially catch sight of or feel something larger than our individual selves.

As part of Fermynwoods’ Love + Light initiative, this project employs art as a medium to examine topics such as environmental consciousness, interconnection, and shared contemplation.

Tobias Zehntner, the creator of this work, commented, “I am genuinely delighted to discover a church congregation open to having an art installation that operates and shifts during their usual services and events.”

A special church service will be held alongside the exhibition, encouraging interfaith and intercultural dialogue.

James Steventon, who leads Fermynwoods, commented, “We are thrilled to introduce this unique art piece to a distinctive Northamptonshire church that welcomes everybody.”

The installation is being funded through support from the Northamptonshire Community Foundation.

Individuals have access to view the exhibition from 7 PM to 9 PM BST, with the event concluding on April 29th.
