Cubs World Series Star Returns Home to Lead Peoria Baseball League’s Legendary Banquet

PEORIA — Ben Zobrist assisted the
Chicago Cubs
achieved an extraordinary season in 2016, and come this summer, he will assist in celebrating the beginning of another season for a storied baseball league.

Zobrist, who was named MVP of the World Series for the champion Cubs in 2016, will serve as the keynote speaker at an event organized by the Peoria-based group.

To kick off its 110th season, banquet is hosting an event.

The nation’s oldest amateur baseball league has planned an event for Zobrist during their 5:30 p.m. banquet on June 6 at the Par-A-Dice Hotel ballroom located at 21 Blackjack Boulevard in East Peoria. Attendees can expect drinks, a meal, and networking opportunities as they listen to hometown hero Zobrist recount tales of his standout performances leading up to winning the 2016 MVP award.

The setting will also feature the induction of a yearly class into the Sunday Morning League Hall of Fame.

During his 14-year Major League Baseball career, Zobrist played for Tampa Bay, Oakland, Kansas City, and Chicago. He won back-to-back World Series titles with Kansas City and Chicago respectively.

He likewise participated in portions of two campaigns within the SundayMorningLeague, where he hit .300 as part of the IllinoisFurniture squad.

Zobrist is set to join the PSML Hall of Fame alongside Chico Bolton, Brock Till, Ken Brooke, Rick Dissman, Tye Elliott, Danny Goodwin, Keith Kelley, Doug McCarty, John Santor, and Kevin Wheelwright as part of the induction class for 2025.

The banquet will similarly pay tribute to three teams: B&M Clothing Store (champions of the first league back in 1916), Caterpillar (holders of the record for most victories throughout the history of the league), and the Pitcher Perfect franchise (dominant force in recent times).
