At the Diane E. Murphy United States Courthouse, justice is acquiring a vibrant new significance with the “Seeds of Justice” exhibition. This showcase includes 17 intricate artworks made from crops, crafted by regional artists.
“Marta Shore, the Assistant Superintendent of Crop Art and Scarecrows at the Minnesota State Fair, stated that ‘crop artists have consistently utilized crop art to express both their enthusiasm and their causes,'” she explained.
The 17 displayed crop art portraits showcase motifs of civic involvement, fairness, and community, all viewed through the lens of Minnesota’s enduring custom of agricultural imagery creation.
“I am genuinely proud to be included in this exhibition that showcases various artists’ perspectives on justice,” stated Shore.
Included among these 17 illustrations of crop art are images of Supreme Court justices, statements regarding transformation, as well as various others.
Juventino Meza, a civil rights attorney who co-created this exhibition with Marta Shore, is among the featured artists as well.
“When I graduated from law school three years ago, I thought I would do something soothing and chose to create some crop art,” stated Meza.
Meza’s work depicts Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor, someone Meza admires greatly.
“Justice Sonya Sotomayor, who hailed from a modest background and had Puerto Rican roots, rose through the ranks by working diligently to achieve her position as a Supreme Court Justice,” stated Meza. “The concept of justice encompasses numerous interpretations—there are various perspectives.”
In his work, he discovered a sense of connection with other people.
“Having conversations with individuals regarding the judicial system and discussing the aspirations of younger folks has been enjoyable,” stated Meza.
The event will run until July 31, and will be featured in the Diane E. Murphy Courthouse foyer.
