Pitt State Softball Dominates with a 20-Run Doubleheader Sweep Over Nebraska-Kearney

Pittsburg, KS – The Pittsburg State Softball team improved their record to 35-11 for the season following two doubleheader victories against Nebraska-Kearney on Thursday. They won game one with a score of 10-3 and followed up with another win in game two at 10-1.

In Game 1, the Gorillas lit up the scoreboard from the start. Pittsburgh State scored four times in the bottom of the first inning and added another three runs in the second, building an early 7-1 advantage.

Ava Laurent secured a strong outing in the pitching circle, preventing the Lopers from assembling any sort of comeback.

In Game 1, Laurent completed 6.0 innings of pitching, allowing 3 hits and 1 earned run, along with recording 10 strikeouts.

Heather Arnett, Amaya Snyder, and Ava Sarwinski led the team offensively with multiple hits each, contributing a total of five RBIs.

In Game 2, the narrative shifted somewhat as the Gorillas’ offense required more time to get going. After falling behind 1-0 following the initial inning, Pitt State rapidly reclaimed the lead by scoring two runs in the subsequent frame.

Once more, Arnett spearheaded the offensive effort in Game 2 with yet another multi-hit display. She concluded the game hitting 5 for 7 at bat and accumulated a total of 4 RBIs over the two matches.

The Gorillas will be back in action at home once again on Friday, April 18 for another doubleheader, this time taking on Fort Hays State.
